SCM (Supply Chain Management or Software Configuration Management)

In short, SCM is the oversight of materials, information, and finances as they move in a process from supplier to manufacturer to wholesaler to retailer to consumer.

OR

SCM is the management of files which make up a software product. SCM does that by keeping track of file versions (aka versioning), and which version of each file went into a release (aka tagging). CVS, SVN, Visual Source Safe and Rational ClearCase are all SCM systems.
