Flex

In short, Macromedia Flex is a web application framework built on J2EE.

It uses

  • a description language, MXML,
  • a scripting language, ActionScript (similar to JavaScript), and
  • Java code to generate a web application.

Instead of HTML, Macromedia Flash is used for the GUI.

The author's $0.02: A new description language. A new scripting language. A proprietary GUI technology that UNIX users can't use. If that doesn't sound freaky, I don't know.
