ACID (Atomic, Consistent, Isolated, Durable)

In short, ACID refers to the basics of database transactions:

  • Atomic: The transaction succeeds or fails as a whole
  • Consistent: The database is in a consistent state before, during, and after a transaction
  • Isolated: Transactions don't influence each other (until committed)
  • Durable: Once a transaction is committed, the change is permanent
